Troop 350 Historian Notes

April 11, 2009

On April 11, 2009, we went to Spring Lake for a fishing derby. The trip couldn’t of been worse; it was pouring rain and you couldn’t even get a bite from a fish. It was pretty bad. Probably the only good part was the “all you can drink hot cocoa”. We got there at 7:45 and left at 10. Not the best way to start your day, but I’m sure future trips will be better.

Later that day we went to make a bonfire at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Father Pat had asked Troop 350 to participate. The older boys in the Troop built the fire. The younger scouts helped with firewood. The fire was great and started right up. We made it for the mass to celebrate the Holy Saturday mass the night before Easter.

April 19, 2009

On April 19, we had the spaghetti dinner at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton’s Parish Center. We had many companies who helped us out with donations for the dinner. The adults cooked and the kids served. The people got a drink to start off with and a salad. Then, a plate of spaghetti and meatballs with 2 pieces of bread. Last, for desert a cupcake. Everything ran smoothly at the dinner and it turned out to be great.

April 24, to April 26, 2009

On April 24, we arrived at Six Flags Camporee. When we got there we just set up our stuff and hung out at camp. Troop 441 was there also so a couple of us went to hang out there for a while. The next day we went to the park. We split up our group to make two groups. The ride that I think had the most problems was El Toro starting with Car 5 and ending with these four line cutters making excuses like there was no tomorrow. I’m never going to ride the teacups again after lunch. For lunch they had a small buffet. At around 5:00 we head back to camp to make dinner. Then, some people went back to the park for more rides. On the 26th we just made our breakfast and went home. I can’t wait for this trip again next year.

May 3rd, 2009

On May 3rd, 2009 we helped set up the Blessing of the Bikes festival at St. Stephens’s church. Blessing of the Bikes is an annual thing and we help every year because the church lets us have our meetings here. There were only a few kids there because of the rain. We were in charge of setting up the toys for the kids under the troop tent. We had to pack it up and go early because there was nothing to do because everyone was inside. There really weren’t any children there either.

May 17th, 2009

On May 17th, 2009 we hosted our annual Troop 350 car wash fundraiser. It was hosted at the Carmona-Bolen Funeral Home. We had a lot of cars to do. When we got there we set up. Then, cars started lining up to get washed and we were busy as anything. There were 5 different jobs for the scouts to do at the car wash. Rinser, washer, tire cleaner, squeegee, and poster person. This was an excellent car wash because we made a lot of money for the troop. This was definitely one of our best fundraisers.

May 29, to May 31, 2009

On May 29th we arrived at a campsite near the Delaware River. It was all wet and muddy when we got there and we spotted a couple of toads. We set up camp right away when we got there and then went to bed. When we woke up we made breakfast and got ready to leave for the canoe trip. We drove 13 miles out of site to get to our starting point. When we got on the river the first canoe tipped containing Mr. Bien and Mr. Decher about 4 seconds into the trip (no joke). On the way to our lunch point we decided to play battleship, it was Sean R, Sean H, Matt L, Sean M, and I were USA. Ryan H and Kevin B were another team. And the last team was Chris D and Will D. Then, we stopped for lunch. The way back was fun because of annoying everyone with my singing skills. When we got back to camp we had mud wrestling, baseball, football, and running bases. I learned a lesson about the right amount of taco seasoning to add to the beef when making tacos. At the campfire we played psychiatrist and we were asked some pretty disturbing questions. We found out Mr. Decher is really large (as a scout pointed out not mentioning any names Nick). On Sunday we packed up and went to KFC for lunch, then went home. In preparation for this trip we took a swim test at Keswick for one of our Tuesday meetings and for another Tuesday meeting we practiced canoeing at Harry Wright Lake.
